Anantnag,June 20: Public concern has intensified after the Health & Medical Education Department initiated disciplinary proceedings against a cardiologist posted at Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag over allegations of fraud, tampering with medical records, misuse of government health schemes and carrying out allegedly unnecessary cardiac procedures.
The allegations have sparked widespread debate, with people from different sections of society calling for strict action if the charges are substantiated. Many have urged the authorities to register an FIR, conduct an impartial criminal investigation and consider cancellation of the doctor’s medical registration in accordance with the law if wrongdoing is established.
Citizens said that allegations involving patient exploitation, falsification of records and misuse of the PMJAY-SEHAT scheme, if proven, would represent a serious violation of public trust and raise concerns about patient safety. They stressed that healthcare institutions are expected to uphold the highest standards of ethics and accountability.
Several residents also demanded a broader investigation to determine whether others may have been involved and to assess whether public funds or patient welfare were adversely affected. They called for transparency throughout the inquiry and exemplary punishment for anyone found guilty.
People appealed to the Jammu and Kashmir Government, the Health & Medical Education Department and other competent authorities to ensure that the investigation is conducted in a fair, transparent and time-bound manner. They emphasized that accountability should apply equally to all, regardless of position or status.
Many also stated that legal action, departmental proceedings and cancellation of professional licences, wherever warranted under law, should be considered against those found responsible after the completion of the inquiry. They reiterated that patient welfare must remain the top priority and that any compromise with healthcare standards should be dealt with firmly.
Meanwhile, the departmental inquiry launched by the Health & Medical Education Department is underway. Authorities are expected to take further action based on the findings of the investigation. Any conclusion regarding guilt or innocence will depend on the outcome of the ongoing proceedings.
