JAMMU, Aug 20: Security forces carried out a search operation in the forested areas of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Thursday after reports of suspicious movement in the border belt, officials said.
The search was conducted in the Billawar forests near the Udhampur-Kathua border as security agencies stepped up surveillance in the area.
The operation followed reports from locals about the presence of unidentified individuals in a village in the Billawar belt. According to residents, some unknown persons allegedly knocked on the door of a house late Wednesday night.
The family chose not to open the door. On Thursday morning, they reportedly noticed that some food items kept inside the house were missing, raising suspicions that someone may have entered the premises.
Kathua Superintendent of Police (Operations) Pritpal Singh said security forces routinely conduct such searches to maintain vigilance in sensitive border areas.
He said the reported suspicious activity was being viewed in the context of the area’s proximity to the border and that forces were continuing their operation as a precautionary measure.
