Srinagar, June 4: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday said Jammu and Kashmir stands as a living example of “Sarva Dharma Sambhav” (equal respect for all faiths), reflecting a centuries-old tradition of religious harmony and coexistence.
Addressing the ‘Rishivar’ Inter-Faith Conference at SKICC Srinagar, Sinha said the values of mutual respect, tolerance and unity have been deeply embedded in India’s civilisation since ancient times. He noted that Jammu and Kashmir has historically been home to diverse faiths and traditions, making it a unique symbol of cultural and spiritual harmony.
Highlighting the teachings of saints and spiritual leaders such as Lal Ded and Sheikh Noor-ud-din Noorani (Nund Rishi), the Lieutenant Governor said their messages continue to inspire peace, brotherhood and social cohesion across communities.
Sinha stressed that while citizens may follow different religions, the Constitution of India remains the guiding principle for all. He also spoke about the migration of Kashmiri Pandits, saying ordinary Kashmiris should not be blamed for the circumstances that led to their displacement.
The Lieutenant Governor praised Jammu and Kashmir’s top performance in the nationwide ‘Vande Mataram’ campaign and urged people to continue supporting the ongoing anti-drug drive. He expressed confidence that collective efforts can significantly reduce the drug menace in the coming months.
Calling for greater unity and social responsibility, Sinha said preserving harmony and working together for the welfare of society is essential for a prosperous future.
