Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday underscored the importance of a united approach by the opposition INDIA alliance in dealing with the proposed parliamentary bill, stating that any response should be taken collectively rather than by individual parties.
Addressing the media in Srinagar, Abdullah voiced apprehension over previous delimitation exercises, claiming that the redrawing of constituencies and redistribution of voters appeared to have worked to the advantage of the Bharatiya Janata Party and its partners.
He confirmed that he would participate in a meeting of the INDIA bloc in New Delhi, which is scheduled to take place at the residence of Mallikarjun Kharge. The gathering is expected to focus on shaping a coordinated opposition strategy regarding the proposed legislation.
The Chief Minister emphasized that cooperation within the alliance is essential for an effective parliamentary response. He maintained that decisions taken collectively would carry more weight and ensure a consistent position among opposition parties.
Abdullah also indicated that the alliance would carefully study the suggested changes to the structure of Parliament, including proposals related to expanding the strength of the Lok Sabha and measures concerning women’s representation, before arriving at a final decision.
