Jammu, October 21: The Jammu and Kashmir government has increased the monthly stipend of MBBS and BDS interns, including Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs), from ₹12,300 to ₹25,000.
The Health and Medical Education Department issued Government Order No. 747-JK(HME) of 2026 on Wednesday, making the revised stipend effective from October 1, 2026.
The decision follows protests by medical and dental interns across Jammu and Kashmir, who had launched an indefinite strike over the delay in increasing their stipend. The interns had demanded ₹30,000 per month and insisted on a formal government order before calling off their agitation.
Earlier, the government had assured the interns that their demand would be considered. However, after the promised deadline passed without an official order, they resumed their protest.
The revised stipend marks an increase of ₹12,700 per month. While the government has approved ₹25,000, the interns had sought ₹30,000 per month.
The new order covers eligible MBBS and BDS interns, including Foreign Medical Graduates, across Jammu and Kashmir.
