Jammu: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a high-level security review meeting on June 8 in the national capital to take stock of preparedness for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, scheduled to begin on July 3 in Jammu and Kashmir.
The crucial meeting will be attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs, intelligence agencies, Army, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and top officers of the Jammu and Kashmir administration.
Officials said the Home Minister will undertake a comprehensive review of security deployment, intelligence coordination, emergency response systems, and civil arrangements to ensure smooth and incident-free conduct of the annual pilgrimage.
According to official inputs, a large-scale multi-layer security grid is being put in place along both traditional routes—Pahalgam and Baltal—with joint deployment of CAPFs, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and Army units. Security cover will extend from Jammu to the holy cave shrine in the South Kashmir Himalayas, including base camps, transit points, and the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway.
The review is expected to focus on counter-terrorism preparedness, area domination, convoy protection, and real-time coordination between multiple security agencies. Intelligence inputs and vulnerability mapping of sensitive stretches are also likely to be discussed in detail.
Officials said special emphasis is being placed on strengthening surveillance and rapid response mechanisms, including drone monitoring, CCTV coverage at key locations, GPS tracking of convoy movement, and integrated control rooms for real-time situational awareness.
Civil preparedness will also be reviewed, including medical facilities at high-altitude camps, oxygen support systems, weather and landslide monitoring, emergency evacuation plans, and logistics arrangements for pilgrims.
The Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, one of the largest annual pilgrimages in the country, attracts lakhs of devotees every year and is conducted under a strict security framework due to challenging terrain and security sensitivities.
The June 8 review meeting is being seen as a final high-level coordination exercise ahead of the commencement of the Yatra, aimed at ensuring a secure, well-coordinated, and smoothly managed pilgrimage season in Jammu and Kashmir.
