Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday set a 78-day deadline for district administrations to intensify efforts under the ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan’, directing a focused, time-bound and result-oriented strategy to curb drug abuse and dismantle narcotics networks.
Chairing a high-level review meeting at Lok Bhavan, the Lieutenant Governor assessed district-wise action plans and asked officers to ensure effective implementation of measures at all levels with measurable outcomes.
He called for intensified grassroots engagement at Panchayat and Ward levels, stressing active participation of religious leaders, educationists, traders, youth groups and social organisations to transform the campaign into a sustained mass movement.
Emphasising youth engagement, he directed Deputy Commissioners to ensure development of playfields in all panchayats and strengthening of sports infrastructure across districts. He also asked officials to regularly organise sports competitions and youth activities to channelise energy of young people into positive pursuits.
Reiterating zero tolerance against narcotics, the Lieutenant Governor called for strict and visible enforcement against drug traffickers. He directed swift implementation of Standard Operating Procedures for cancellation or suspension of driving licences, passports and other documents of those involved in drug peddling.
He further instructed prompt identification and seizure of properties linked to narco networks, intensified inspection of pharmaceutical shops to prevent misuse of prescription drugs and enhanced vigilance in and around educational institutions and vulnerable areas.
The Lieutenant Governor also directed Deputy Commissioners to identify and act against fake or unauthorised de-addiction and rehabilitation centres, ensuring only certified institutions operate within the regulatory framework.
Highlighting the role of community institutions, he stressed strengthening of Mahila Samitis and Youth Clubs for awareness campaigns, early identification of vulnerable individuals and community-based monitoring mechanisms.
He also directed utilisation of Block Diwas and Thana Diwas as platforms for addressing public grievances and strengthening trust between citizens and the administration.
The Lieutenant Governor further asked officers to take advance and comprehensive measures for smooth conduct of upcoming major religious events, including the annual Amarnath Yatra and Muharram, ensuring safety and convenience of the public.
