Financial freedom for women through education, employment, and empowerment

Vikram Sharma

JAMMU: For the past three years, Mission Shakti has been dedicated to empowering the women of Jammu, positively impacting thousands of lives. Since its inception in February 2022, the initiative has benefited over 4,000 women across the district. Many of these women, after establishing their own businesses with government assistance, have gone on to create employment opportunities for others, furthering the cycle of empowerment.

Mission Shakti not only focuses on education and employment but also ensures that women have access to essential services. Through various training programs and awareness camps, the initiative has played a pivotal role in transforming lives.

One such success story comes from a village in Bishnah tehsil, where Mission Shakti, in collaboration with SBI Bank, organized a fast-food training program. Numerous women from the village actively participated, learning the necessary skills to establish their own businesses. As a result, two women secured government loans through Mission Shakti’s assistance and have successfully opened fast-food shops in Bishnah. These enterprises have not only provided them with financial independence but also created job opportunities for others in the community.

Similarly, an awareness camp was conducted in Saror to educate women about various government loan schemes. During this event, a local woman was inspired to apply for a loan. With the guidance of Mission Shakti, she completed all necessary documentation and formalities. The financial aid she received enabled her to launch a toy-making business, showcasing the initiative’s role in fostering entrepreneurship among women.

A senior official from Mission Shakti emphasized that the initiative is a key scheme of the central government. The Mahila Empowerment Center, also known as the Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women, operates under Mission Shakti, striving to protect, uplift, and empower women and girls.

Mission Shakti actively raises awareness about various women-centric government schemes, ensuring easy access for beneficiaries. The initiative organizes extensive training and awareness camps covering diverse subjects, including self-defense, legal rights, skill development, and personality enhancement. Women aspiring to start their own businesses receive skill training as well as financial guidance. Additionally, if any woman faces obstacles in availing government schemes, Mission Shakti prioritizes assistance to ensure she receives her rightful benefits.

The initiative has collaborated with over 25 government departments and institutions, facilitating support for women in multiple ways. Awareness and training camps are routinely held to bridge the gap between women and government schemes. In addition to employment and financial assistance, Mission Shakti actively works towards creating awareness about drug addiction and legal rights, ensuring a holistic approach to women’s welfare.

The Mission Shakti office is conveniently located in Preet Nagar, near the CRPF camp. Women in need can seek assistance by calling 0191-2481123 or 9055202000. A dedicated team of six professionals led by the District Coordinator, works tirelessly to support women. So far, the team has helped nearly 1,000 women secure old-age and widow pensions, and more than 500 women have received financial aid from the state government for marriage.

Mission Shakti continues to transform lives, fostering self-reliance and confidence among women. By providing education, skill training, financial aid, and awareness, the initiative ensures that women are not only beneficiaries but also contributors to economic and social progress. Through sustained efforts and unwavering commitment, Mission Shakti is shaping a brighter, more empowered future for the women of Jammu.
