Jammu: Marking a major achievement for the Jammu Division of Northern Railway, the Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express—operating on the newly constructed Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL)—has set new records of success within just its initial days of operation.
Over the weekend spanning Saturday and Sunday this week, approximately 11,000 passengers traveled on this modern train, marking a new milestone in regional connectivity. The enthusiasm among passengers is evident from the fact that the train’s occupancy rate has reached 96%.
Since the commencement of regular service on May 2, 2026, approximately 40,000 passengers have completed their journeys while availing themselves of the Vande Bharat’s modern amenities. According to statistics from the past nine days, the train’s average occupancy has stood at 86.5 percent.
The Vande Bharat train covers the distance of approximately 267 kilometers between Jammu and Srinagar in just 4 hours and 50 minutes. Not only does this save time compared to road travel, but it also offers passengers a world-class travel experience. During its journey, the train traverses two engineering marvels: the world’s highest railway bridge, the ‘Chenab Bridge,’ and the ‘Anji Khad Bridge.’ This unique experience has emerged as a major attraction for both tourists and local commuters alike. Passengers traveling on the train have highly praised its modern safety standards, smooth journey, and the high-quality amenities provided on board.
Commenting on the successful operation of the train, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal stated, “We anticipate 100% occupancy during the upcoming tourist season. We promise passengers not only a saving of time but also a luxurious journey amidst the valleys of the Himalayas; the Jammu Division remains steadfastly committed to the service and safety of its passengers.”
