Anantnag, May 2: Authorities in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district demolished 15 illegal shops and other encroachments in the Waghama area during a joint operation by the civil administration and police on Saturday.
Officials said the action was part of the ongoing 100-day Nasha Mukht programme and targeted structures allegedly linked to individuals involved in cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The demolished constructions had been raised on state and kahcharai land, falling under Khasra numbers 2494 (min) and 2495 (min).
Among the structures removed was a shop belonging to Sajad Ahmad Rather, a resident of Waghama.
The district administration said it will continue strict action against drug peddlers, narcotics networks and illegal land encroachments, adding that similar drives will be intensified to ensure a drug-free society. Officials also warned of firm action against anyone found involved in such activities in the future.
