Sopore, April 14: Police on Tuesday arrested eight individuals for their alleged involvement in vandalism during a student protest in Sopore, while authorities have identified 25 more persons in connection with the incident.
Officials said the arrests were made after incidents of damage to public and private property were reported during protests that erupted following allegations against a lecturer in the town. The demonstrations led to disruption and destruction in several areas.
According to police, those taken into custody are suspected of damaging vehicles and ransacking property during the unrest. Authorities stated that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found responsible for disturbing public order.
Police further said that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects who have been identified. They also appealed to residents to stay calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands, stressing the need to maintain peace and stability.
