Urged leaders refrain from making remarks that hurt the sentiments of the people
Srinagar: In a firm and direct statement, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha reaffirmed India’s unwavering stance on Jammu and Kashmir, calling Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) an integral part of India.
His remarks came amid growing unrest in PoJK and discussions over the ongoing crackdown on separatist organizations in Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking on a national television channel, LG Sinha criticized neighbouring state (without naming Pakistan) role in fostering instability in the region, labeling it a “failed state” that continues to harbor and export terrorism.
“Our neighbor has consistently tried to destabilize Jammu and Kashmir, but it has failed. The people of PoJK are rising against their government and military. They see the progress in Jammu and Kashmir and understand the stark difference,” he said.
LG Sinha highlighted that the Indian government’s actions against separatist and terrorist-linked organizations are based on concrete evidence.
He dismissed allegations that the bans on groups like the Awami Action Committee (AAC) were politically motivated.
“The decision to ban separatist groups is not arbitrary. We have a clear process, and only after thorough investigation do we take action. No one will be allowed to disrupt the peace and development of Jammu and Kashmir,” he asserted.
He also reiterated India’s stance on PoJK, echoing the sentiments of the External Affairs Ministry.
“PoJK was, is, and will always remain an integral part of India. The people there are realizing the truth, and their protests against the Pakistani military and administration are a clear indication of this,” he added.
Comparing the present situation in Jammu and Kashmir to its turbulent past, LG Sinha emphasized the transformation the region has undergone.
“Earlier, the region was known for terrorism. Today, it is a hub of tourism and development. While the people of Jammu and Kashmir enjoy improved infrastructure, education, and employment opportunities, those in PoJK struggle for basic necessities like electricity and healthcare,” he said.
He also highlighted the peaceful elections, record-breaking tourist influx, and growing industrial investments in Jammu and Kashmir as evidence of the region’s progress.
“No longer do we see shutdowns or stone-pelting dictated by external forces. Our youth are now engaged in nation-building, focusing on entrepreneurship, education, and skill development,” he noted.
Taking a veiled dig at certain political figures, LG Sinha urged leaders to be responsible with their statements.
“Political leaders should refrain from making remarks that hurt the sentiments of the people. This is not the time for divisive politics but for unity and progress,” he said.
He dismissed the claims of some opposition leaders who called the prevailing normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir “forced.” “If normalcy were forced, would we see people gathering at Lal Chowk at midnight without fear? Would Bollywood filmmakers return to shoot here? Would international events like the G20 Summit be held in Kashmir?” he questioned.
Looking ahead, LG Sinha assured that the government remains committed to the rehabilitation of displaced communities, including Kashmiri Pandits.
“Their return is a gradual process, but we are moving in the right direction. Our focus remains on development, security, and ensuring that every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir feels safe,” he said.
He reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and that there is no room for separatism.
“The time for division and conflict is over. The future of Jammu and Kashmir lies in peace, progress, and integration with the rest of India,” he affirmed.
With India maintaining a strong stand on national security and territorial integrity, LG Sinha’s message reinforces the government’s commitment to ensuring a stable and prosperous future for Jammu and Kashmir.
