Srinagar | September 8: The National Conference (NC) on Tuesday observed the 44th death anniversary of its founder, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, with party leaders and supporters gathering at Naseem Bagh in Srinagar to pay their respects.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah visited Sheikh Abdullah’s grave, where they offered floral tributes and recited Fateha. They also prayed for the departed leader.
A number of NC legislators, senior leaders, party workers and supporters joined the gathering and remembered Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah’s contribution to Jammu and Kashmir’s political history.
Known popularly as the “Sher-e-Kashmir,” Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah founded the National Conference and became the first elected Prime Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. He passed away on September 8, 1982.
