Jammu: The Army has launched ‘Operation Shiva 2026’ to ensure a robust and foolproof security framework for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, with top commanders reviewing preparedness across sensitive forward areas ahead of the annual pilgrimage.
Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, during a visit to forward locations of Kilo Force and Baltal, assessed operational readiness and reviewed the prevailing security situation. He was accompanied by Lt Gen Balbir Singh, General Officer Commanding of 15 Corps, where both interacted with troops and stressed heightened vigilance, coordination, and mission-oriented execution to ensure zero security lapses during the yatra.
An Army spokesperson said the Army Commander was briefed on the overall security environment and measures being taken to strengthen surveillance and operational preparedness. The visit also focused on ensuring seamless coordination among deployed formations to maintain a secure environment for pilgrims.
The Army reiterated its commitment to providing a safe pilgrimage experience in close coordination with all stakeholders as part of Operation Shiva 2026.
Meanwhile, authorities have declared the entire yatra route—covering both Pahalgam and Baltal axes—a No Flying Zone from July 1 till the conclusion of the pilgrimage. As a result, helicopter services will remain suspended, and pilgrims will travel on foot or use pony and palki services.
The 57-day pilgrimage is scheduled to begin on July 3 via the twin routes of Pahalgam and Baltal.
In parallel, security arrangements at transport hubs have also been strengthened. Director General of the Railway Protection Force Sonali Mishra reviewed arrangements at Jammu Railway Station, stating that a multi-layered security mechanism has been put in place for the smooth and safe movement of pilgrims and passengers.
She said manpower deployment has been reinforced and modern surveillance systems and technical gadgets are being integrated into the security grid. Multiple agencies including RPF, Government Railway Police, local police, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) are working in close coordination to ensure foolproof arrangements.
Officials said the coordinated security push across routes, railways, and base camps reflects a unified effort to ensure the safe and peaceful conduct of one of the largest annual pilgrimages in the region.
