Jammu: Security agencies intensified their crackdown on narcotics-related activities across Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, demolishing an illegally constructed property linked to an alleged drug peddler in Srinagar, detaining a woman under the PIT-NDPS Act in Samba, and arresting three suspected drug peddlers in Pulwama.
In Srinagar, police in coordination with the Revenue Department demolished a three-storey residential structure belonging to alleged drug peddler Sheikh Tasaduq at Mumkhan Mohalla in the Rainawari area. Officials said the structure, valued at around ₹2 crore, had been constructed on encroached state land and was allegedly raised using proceeds generated through narcotics trafficking.
Police said Tasaduq is involved in multiple cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in Awantipora and Budgam districts. His spouse, Sheikh Maroofa, is also facing an NDPS case registered in Pulwama.
According to investigators, a detailed inquiry established that the property represented illegally acquired assets and financial gains derived from unlawful drug trafficking activities. The demolition was carried out after completion of legal formalities and in the presence of revenue officials. Authorities said the action also resulted in the recovery of valuable government land that had been under illegal occupation.
Meanwhile, in Samba district, police detained an alleged habitual drug peddler under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act.
The detained woman, identified as Sheema Bibi, originally hails from Bishnah in Jammu district and was residing in the Balole Khad area of Bari Brahmana. Police said she was involved in multiple NDPS cases registered at Police Station Bari Brahmana and had continued to engage in narcotics-related activities despite previous legal action.
Following the preparation of a detailed dossier, police approached the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, seeking preventive detention under the PIT-NDPS Act. After approval of the proposal, detention orders were executed and the accused was lodged in District Jail Bhaderwah.
In another operation under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan, police arrested three alleged drug peddlers in Pulwama district and recovered a heroin-like substance from their possession.
According to police, a naka party from Police Post Newa intercepted a vehicle at SinguNarbal while it was travelling from Kakapora towards Newa. During the search, officers recovered approximately 8.5 grams of a heroin-like substance.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Zulfikar Shafi Malik and Haris Nazir Malik, both residents of Dalipora in Pulwama, and Aarif Bashir Dar, a resident of Kangan in Pulwama district. The vehicle used in the alleged crime was also seized.
Police have registered cases under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act and further investigations are underway.
Officials said the actions form part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan aimed at dismantling narcotics networks, targeting proceeds of crime, and preventing habitual offenders from continuing their involvement in drug trafficking activities.
