AUG 5: Anti-terror operation entered the fifth day in Kulgam district with vigilant security forces strengthening the cordon in Akhal Devsar area on Tuesday.
Till date, one terrorist has been eliminated in the fierce encounter.
As per the Chinar Corps of Indian Army, a joint team of Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF and Special Operations Group (SOG) on Saturday gunned down one terrorist during the encounter that continued in Akhal area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
Chinar Corps posted on X, “OP AKHAL, Kulgam Intermittent and intense firefight continued through the night. Alert troops responded with calibrated fire and tightened the noose while maintaining contact.”
Chinar Corps added in post, “One terrorist has been neutralised by the security forces so far. Operation continues.”
Heavy deployment of the forces, cutting-edge monitoring system, seamless coordination among the forces with real-time drones and helicopters are hovering over the area to hunt down the hiding terrorists.
Earlier, three terrorists involved in Pahalgam terror attack were killed by security forces in Srinagar during the Operation Mahadev. This was announced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Lok Sabha on July 29.
Amit Shah said, “In the Operation Mahadev, Suleman alias Faizal…, Afghan and Jibran, these three terrorists were killed in a joint operation of the Indian Army, CRPF and J&K Police…”
Following this, ‘Operation Shivshakti’ was launched by White Knight Corps of Indian Army. In the course of this, two terror operatives were eliminated while attempting to infiltrate across the LoC in Poonch.
White Knight Corps posted on X, “Operation Shivashakti. In a successful anti-infiltration operation, alert troops of the Indian Army eliminated two terrorists attempting to infiltrate across the Line of Control. Swift action and accurate firepower thwarted the nefarious designs. Three weapons have been recovered. Synergistic and synchronised intelligence inputs from own intelligence units and JKP led to a successful operation.”
