SRINAGAR: In a show of solidarity and resilience, leading tour operators from across India gathered in Srinagar on Thursday to discuss strategies for reviving tourism in the Kashmir Valley following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.
The high-level interaction brought together stakeholders from Maharashtra, Gujarat, West Bengal, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and other states. The objective was clear: to restore traveler confidence and support the local tourism sector that suffered a sharp jolt in the wake of the attack on a tourist vehicle earlier this month.
“We are here not just in solidarity with the people of Kashmir, but to send a clear message — Kashmir remains one of the most beautiful and welcoming destinations in the country,” said Rajiv Arora, a tour operator from Maharashtra.
Local hospitality providers, including hotel owners, transporters, guides, and ponywalas, highlighted the decline in bookings and the economic blow suffered by allied sectors. The visiting delegation assured them of nationwide cooperation in reviving travel to the region.
“Kashmir is not just a destination — it’s an emotion for many travelers,” said Rahul Khanna from Delhi. “One incident should not define the entire region. We are committed to promoting the Valley as a prime travel choice this summer.”
Tour operators from Gujarat, a state known for sending thousands of tourists to Kashmir annually, echoed similar sentiments. “Kashmir has always had a special place in the hearts of Gujarati travelers. We’ve come here to stand with the tourism community and to assure everyone back home that the Valley is open, peaceful, and ready to welcome guests again,” said Nirav Patel.
From the eastern region, Ritwik Sen of Kolkata Holiday emphasized that it was time to correct the narrative. “We’ve seen over the years how resilient this place is. As travel professionals, it’s our duty to tell the real story — that Kashmir is as breathtaking and hospitable as ever.”
Delegates earlier held meetings with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, seeking relief measures for the affected industry.
From Maharashtra, Anjali Mehta, a senior tour planner from Mumbai, reaffirmed the continued interest among travelers. “Despite recent events, we firmly believe Kashmir continues to be one of India’s safest and most enchanting destinations. Our clients are eager to return — they just need reassurance, and we’re here to help deliver that.”
Tourism professionals from Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab also expressed optimism about a rebound.
Meanwhile speaking to The News Now, one of the members of Kashmir Chambers and Industries said, “Recently, we had a meeting with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and LG Manoj Sinha. Now, I believe we’ve come to the realization that we must take action to review tourism in Kashmir”.
Tourism Department will be holding exhibition and road shows which will be lead by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah himself. The event will be held across the country, he said.
Adding that he said, “Transport sector has been severely hit following Pahalgam attack. We have also urged the government to look into the matter and provide relief them with regard to the loan”.
