Srinagar, June 21: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha led the International Day of Yoga celebrations in Srinagar, joining thousands of participants at a mass yoga session on the banks of Dal Lake.
Addressing the gathering, Sinha said yoga is more than a physical exercise and helps achieve balance between the body, mind and emotions. He said in today’s fast-paced world, yoga offers a way to reduce stress and improve overall well-being.
The Lieutenant Governor urged people to make yoga a daily habit, saying even a few minutes of regular practice can strengthen mental resilience and promote a healthier lifestyle.
He said yoga, an ancient Indian tradition, has now become a global movement for wellness and is playing a positive role in initiatives such as the “Drug-Free Jammu Kashmir” campaign.
Health Minister Sakina Itoo, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, DGP Nalin Prabhat, senior officials and a large number of citizens and youth participated in the event. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address on the occasion was also telecast live.
International Yoga Day is observed every year on June 21 to raise awareness about the benefits of yoga for physical and mental well-being. The day was proclaimed by the United Nations in 2014 following a proposal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and has since been celebrated across the world with mass yoga sessions and wellness events.
