Jammu: More than 1.50 lakh households in Jammu and Kashmir have successfully completed self-enumeration through the official portal within three days of the launch of Census 2027, a senior official said on Tuesday.
Describing the public response as “highly encouraging”, he said that citizens from urban, rural, hilly and far-flung areas are actively participating in the first phase of India’s first fully digital and paperless Census exercise.
The digital self-enumeration process in Jammu and Kashmir was officially launched on May 17 and will continue until May 31.
“Over 1.50 lakh households across Jammu and Kashmir have successfully completed their self-enumeration exercise within first three days after the launch of Census 2027 through the official self-enumeration portal se.census.gov.in,” Chief Principal Census Officer (CPCO) Amit Sharma told reporters here.
Sharma said all the districts are witnessing enthusiastic participation in the exercise. Far-flung districts in Kashmir, including Kulgam, Baramulla and Kupwara, besides remote areas of the Jammu division, have recorded remarkable participation.
The CPCO said dedicated support systems and facilitation arrangements have also been put in place at district and field levels to assist citizens in completing the online process smoothly and accurately.
Sharing the special arrangements made for migratory and nomadic tribal populations, including Gujjars, Bakarwals and other nomadic communities, he said, “No person from the tribal or migratory population will be left out of the Census enumeration exercise.”
He said the Office of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, School Education Department, Tribal Affairs Department and Sheep Husbandry Department are coordinating to ensure coverage of migratory and nomadic populations.
Special deployment of enumerators and supervisors are being done to cover households in remote, hilly and migratory routes.
Moreover, the self-enumeration portal and Census mobile applications have been designed to function effectively even in difficult terrain and low-connectivity areas. Offline and synchronisation-based mechanisms have been incorporated into these digital systems, Sharma said.
Highlighting the importance of accurate demographic data, Sharma appealed to all residents of Jammu and Kashmir to complete their self-enumeration within the notified timelines and provide correct information for generation of reliable data essential for governance, welfare schemes, infrastructure planning and developmental policy formulation.
He also clarified that all information collected during Census operations remains completely confidential under the provisions of the Census Act, 1948, and reiterated that no bank account details, PAN details, financial transaction information or similar sensitive personal information are collected during the exercise.
