MARCH 27: On Thursday, Delhi HC defied an urgent hearing for jailed MP Baramulla Abdul Rashid Sheikh alias Er Rashid seeking a waiver of travel expenses for attending Parliament.
It is learnt that authorities are charging Rs 1.45 lakh for one-day travel expenses from Tihar to Parliament.
Currently, Engineer Rashid is serving imprisonment in Tihar Jail as an accused in a terror funding case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Er Rashid’s plea reads that jail authorities have informed him that he must pay Rs 1.45 lakh per day with total of Rs 8.74 lakh for six days.
Engineer Rashid has said that in the previous instances when he was granted interim bail to attend Parliament Session, no body asked him to cover the cost of travel and other arrangements.
Pertinent to mention, the Delhi High Court has allowed jailed MP Baramulla Abdul Rashid Sheikh alias Er Rashid to attend ongoing Parliament session. A bench of Justices said Police would escort Engineer Rashid to Parliament and bring him back to jail between March 26 to April 4.
