Jammu, October 31, 2025 — In a move aimed at enhancing administrative accessibility and ensuring balanced governance across regions, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has directed nine key offices under the Home Department of Jammu & Kashmir to operate from both Jammu and Srinagar.
The decision is part of a broader effort to streamline public service delivery and maintain year-round functionality in both capitals of the Union Territory. The dual-location mandate is expected to reduce delays in decision-making and improve coordination between field units and headquarters.
Offices to Operate in Both Cities:
- Criminal Investigation Department (CID)
- Fire & Emergency Services
- Prisons Department
- Forensic Science Laboratory
- Home Guards & Civil Defence
- Prosecution Wing
- Police Housing Corporation
- State Disaster Response Force (SDRF)
- Directorate of Home Affairs
Officials have been instructed to ensure adequate staffing, infrastructure, and digital connectivity at both locations to facilitate seamless operations. The move has been welcomed by civil society groups and legislators, who have long advocated for equitable administrative presence in both regions.
