Srinagar, Sept 28 : The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly witnessed protests on Monday after BJP legislators submitted a no-confidence motion against Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather.
BJP MLA R.S. Pathania objected to the Speaker continuing to preside over the House, saying, “You cannot sit on the chair.”
Rather said the Assembly rules allow a no-confidence motion to be taken up only 14 days after the notice is received and asked BJP members to follow the rules.
BJP legislators continued their protest and raised slogans of “Speaker Sahab Kursi Chhodo.”
Later, Leader of Opposition Sunil Kumar Sharma said the BJP supports restoration of statehood but does not support discussion on the pre-1953 position.
Amid the uproar, BJP MLAs entered the well of the House, disrupting proceedings.
