Gulmarg : “For winter games, there is no comparison to Gulmarg,” said Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah while talking to reporters before closing ceremony of the Khelo India Winter Games 2025.
Abdullah highlighted the unique advantages of Gulmarg as a winter sports destination, acknowledging that it stands out on the global map for such events.
He shared how the games had been in doubt earlier this season due to a lack of snowfall, but the timely arrival of snow allowed the games to proceed as planned.
“The lack of snow earlier this year raised concerns that the games might not take place, but thanks to Allah, we received the snowfall we needed, and we were able to host the event,” Abdullah added.
While celebrating the success of the games, the Chief Minister also underscored the need to improve infrastructure and increase local participation in winter sports.
He expressed his intention to provide more support for local athletes, including enhanced training programs, and also announced plans to develop Gulmarg, Sonmarg, and other destinations to further promote winter sports tourism in the region.
“A consultant will be engaged to work on these development projects, ensuring long-term benefits for the local community,” he added.
