Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir continued to remain warmer than normal for early October, with maximum temperatures staying up to 7 degrees above normal in parts of Kashmir and up to 4 degrees above normal across several areas of the Jammu division, even as the Meteorological Department forecast a gradual shift in weather conditions from October 6.
Srinagar recorded a maximum of 30.8°C, around 5.3 degrees above normal, while Kathua was the hottest among the listed stations at 33.6°C. Jammu recorded 33.5°C, with the maximum also remaining above normal.
The warm conditions extended into the night, with minimum temperatures 1–3 degrees above normal at many places in Kashmir and 1–4 degrees above normal in Jammu division.
Pahalgam recorded the lowest minimum in Kashmir at 7.2°C, while Bhaderwah recorded 9.4°C in Jammu division.
No rainfall was recorded across Jammu and Kashmir during the 24 hours ending 8.30 am on Sunday.
The IMD forecast mainly dry weather on October 4 and 5, with isolated rainfall or thunderstorms likely from October 6.
Scattered rainfall activity is expected over subsequent days, with fairly widespread activity forecast in Jammu and Kashmir on October 9.
The weather office has also warned of isolated thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph on October 8, followed by isolated thunder and lightning activity on October 9 and 10.
For Monday, the IMD has forecast mainly clear to partly cloudy skies in Srinagar and Jammu. The maximum temperature is expected to touch around 32°C in Srinagar and 34°C in Jammu, with minimum temperatures of 12°C and 23°C respectively.
The forecast for the coming week suggests that the prolonged dry spell will gradually give way to scattered weather activity, although the department has not issued any warning for October 4 to 7.
Among other stations, Gulmarg recorded 23°C, Pahalgam 24.8°C, Qazigund 30°C and Kupwara 30.3°C as maximum temperatures. In Jammu division, Katra recorded 31°C, Udhampur 31.6°C and Rajouri 31.6°C.
The IMD said the prevailing conditions remained dry, with no significant precipitation recorded during the reporting period.
