Jammu, Oct 2: Jammu and Kashmir Police has issued an advisory warning people about a growing cyber fraud method involving artificial intelligence-based voice cloning.
According to the advisory, cyber criminals can use AI technology to imitate the voices of relatives, employers or government officials and then make fraudulent calls or send fake audio messages.
Police cautioned people against trusting an unexpected call simply because the voice sounds familiar. Such calls may involve urgent requests designed to make people reveal personal or financial information or take action without proper verification.
People have been advised to independently confirm the identity of the caller by contacting the person through a known phone number or another trusted communication channel before responding to any request.
Police also urged people not to share personal, financial or other sensitive information during unsolicited calls.
Families have been advised to educate children and elderly members about AI voice-cloning scams and remain alert to suspicious calls or audio messages.
Anyone who becomes a victim of cyber fraud can contact the national cyber fraud helpline at 1930 or report the incident through the official cybercrime reporting portal.
The police advisory urged people to stay alert, verify unexpected communications and avoid acting hastily when receiving suspicious calls or audio messages.
