Srinagar, May 14: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Thursday welcomed recent remarks by RSS leader Dattatreya Hosabale favouring dialogue with Pakistan, asserting that lasting peace cannot be achieved through war.
Talking to reporters in Srinagar, the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister said the statement reflected a positive shift towards resolving issues through engagement rather than confrontation. He also appreciated former Army Chief M M Naravane for supporting the call for talks.
Abdullah said it was encouraging to see influential voices acknowledging that military conflict is not a sustainable solution and that dialogue remains essential for addressing long-standing disputes.
Commenting on the ongoing BRICS discussions in New Delhi, Abdullah expressed hope that the platform would contribute towards peace efforts in the Middle East. He also described US President Donald Trump’s proposed visit to China as a positive diplomatic development.
Responding to a question about austerity measures introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union ministers, including the reduction of official vehicle convoys, Abdullah said such steps were necessary in view of fuel-related concerns and should be followed more widely.
