New Delhi: India on Thursday marked the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor, with the country’s top leadership describing it as a landmark military action that reinforced a clear national doctrine — there is no safe haven for terrorism, and any attack on Indian civilians will be met with decisive force.

The commemorations came amid strong statements from the President, Prime Minister, Defence Minister, Home Minister, and state leadership, all of whom hailed the operation as a defining moment in India’s modern counter-terror strategy and a symbol of national unity, military precision, and political resolve.

President Droupadi Murmu said Operation Sindoor stands as a “defining testament” to India’s unwavering resolve against terrorism and all forces threatening national sovereignty.

She said the “extraordinary success” of the mission reflected the unmatched courage, discipline, and precision of the armed forces. Referring to the April 22, 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 civilians, mostly tourists, were killed, she said the response delivered was “befitting and exemplary.”

Murmu added that India remains “vigilant, united, and fully prepared” to respond with strength to any threat against its citizens or territorial integrity, and paid tribute to the “indomitable bravery and professionalism” of the armed forces.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Operation Sindoor reflected India’s firm response to terrorism and its uncompromising commitment to national security.

He said the armed forces displayed “unparalleled courage, precision and resolve” during the operation and gave a “fitting response” to those behind the Pahalgam attack.

Modi added that a year later, India remains steadfast in its resolve to defeat terrorism and destroy its ecosystem. He also highlighted enhanced coordination among security forces and growing self-reliance in the defence sector as key outcomes strengthened by the operation.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described Operation Sindoor as a “benchmark for modern warfare,” citing its precision strikes and seamless tri-services coordination.

He said the operation stands as a “powerful symbol of national resolve and preparedness,” adding that it demonstrated India’s ability to act decisively when required.

Singh also linked the mission to India’s push towards defence self-reliance, saying it strengthened the country’s operational capability and resilience. He noted that around 100 terrorists were eliminated in strikes on nine terror infrastructure sites across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said Operation Sindoor would be remembered as an “epochal mission” that showcased India’s striking capability, intelligence precision, and political will.

He said the operation sent a clear message that terrorists “cannot escape no matter where they hide,” adding that India’s armed forces and agencies acted in complete coordination to dismantle terror infrastructure across the border.

Shah said the operation should be seen as a warning that India remains capable of identifying and striking terror networks with precision and strength.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said Operation Sindoor was a “declaration etched in resolve” that India’s armed forces are committed to protecting sovereignty at any cost.

He said the operation reflected India’s firm resolve to dismantle terror networks and secure a terror-free Jammu and Kashmir. He also paid tribute to the armed forces for their “unwavering courage and extraordinary response” to the Pahalgam attack.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said Operation Sindoor reflected the unity of 145 crore Indians, the indomitable will of the nation, and the extraordinary valour of the armed forces.

He described it as a symbol of “New India’s confidence, courage and decisive leadership,” adding that it sent a strong global message that India does not compromise on its security, sovereignty or honour.

Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7, 2025, in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam. Indian armed forces carried out coordinated precision strikes on nine terror infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

According to official accounts, the strikes eliminated around 100 terrorists and targeted key terror facilities used for planning cross-border attacks.

The operation triggered a brief escalation in tensions, with retaliatory attempts from across the border, most of which were reportedly intercepted or thwarted by Indian forces. Hostilities eventually de-escalated following military-level communication between both sides on May 10, 2025.
