POONCH, 15 Nov: In a major breakthrough against criminal networks, Surankote Police today apprehended three active members of the notorious Gopi/Ghanshyam Puria gang after a swift and well-coordinated operation. Acting on specific intelligence, a special naka was laid at Mirza Morh under the supervision of SDPO Surankote and SHO Surankote. During the checking of vehicles, a Swift Dzire bearing registration number UP 16BP 2190 was signalled to stop.
Upon inspection, police recovered ₹2,18,000 in cash from the vehicle. The three youths travelling in the car identified themselves as Kanwaljeet Singh, son of Ranjit Singh of Dharmu Chak, District Amritsar; Mandeep Singh @ Sidhu, son of Jaswant Singh of Jilal, District Amritsar; and Harmanpreet Singh, son of Kewal Singh of Bujjiwali, District Gurdaspur.
Further investigation and verification of their antecedents from their respective police stations revealed that all three are active operatives of the Gopi/Ghanshyam Puria gang and had arrived in the area to procure weapons for the group. On sustained questioning, their disclosure led to the recovery of two pistols along with live ammunition. Following the recovery, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Surankote, marking a significant success for the police in curbing organised criminal activities in the region.
ADL SP Poonch Mohan Sharma confirmed the arrest and said a case FIR no 257/2025 dated 15.11.2025 u/s 111 BNSS and 13 UAPA is registered at Police Station Surankote he said we are investing the case and more details will be shared later
