Jammu: Proceedings in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Saturday began with strong reactions from political leaders over the recent Ganderbal encounter, with several members demanding a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident. Leaders alleged that an innocent civilian may have been killed in a staged gunfight and called for accountability to ensure justice.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary stated that the Lieutenant Governor has already ordered an inquiry into the incident and assured that strict action would be taken against anyone found responsible. He emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring justice and maintaining public trust.
National Conference (NC) spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq, while speaking to The News Now, welcomed the decision to initiate a magisterial inquiry, noting that the step was taken on the directions of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. He said the investigation should be conducted impartially and that those found guilty must face stringent punishment under the law.
Meanwhile, MLA Irfan Hafeez Lone staged a protest outside the Assembly premises, strongly condemning the incident. He remarked that the killing of a civilian is equivalent to the murder of entire humanity and demanded strict action against those responsible.
In addition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) MLA Waheed ur Rehman Para also called for decisive action to prevent incidents similar to the one reported in Ganderbal. He stressed the need for transparency, accountability, and safeguards to protect innocent lives.
