Police complaints against Iltija for calling Hindutva as disease

Jammu: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Iltija Mufti’s recent “Hindutva is a disease” remark has sparked a political row with the ruling BJP accusing Mehbooba Mufti’s daughter of creating a divide in society.
In Jammu, Rakesh Bajrangi, the State President of Rashtriya Bajrang Dal, Monday lodged a formal complaint with the Senior Superintendent of Police, (SSP)Jammu, against Iltija Mufti, daughter of PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti. The complaint was regarding a derogatory tweet made by Iltija Mufti PDP leader on the social media platform X, where she allegedly insulted Lord Ram and the Hindu community and referred to Hindutva as a “disease.”
The complainant strongly condemned the statement, claiming it hurt the religious sentiments of millions of Hindus and fostered hatred and intolerance. Rakesh Bajrangi urged the authorities to take immediate action by registering an FIR under relevant legal provisions for promoting enmity and disturbing communal harmony. He emphasized the need for prompt action to uphold the law and maintain societal peace.
“Ram the deity must hang his head in shame & watch helplessly as minor Muslim boys are whacked with chappals only because they refuse to chant his name. Hindutva is a disease that’s afflicted millions of Indians & sullied God’s name,” Iltija Mufti said after a video of 3 minor Muslim boys being forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ in Madhya Pradesh went viral on social media.
Similarly, the Kashmiri Pandit organization Youth 4 Panun Kashmir has filed a police complaint against PDP leader Iltija Mufti, accusing her of insulting Lord Rama and the Hindu community.
The complaint was filed by Vithal Chowdhary, President of Youth 4 Panun Kashmir, alleging that Mufti made a derogatory and inflammatory tweet about Lord Rama, Hinduism, and Hindus. The complaint has been lodged with the Cyber Crime Cell in Delhi, accusing Mufti of making a deeply offensive statement designed to incite communal discord and deliberately insult Lord Rama, the Hindu religion, and its followers.
The complaint cites Sections 302, 325, and 323 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Section 67 of the IT Act, as per the statement issued by the organization.
Meanwhile, Roots in Kashmir (RIK), another Kashmiri Pandit group, has supported the actions of Youth 4 Panun Kashmir. Amit Raina, spokesperson for RIK, called Mufti a “habitual offender” and promised to provide full assistance to ensure that legal action is taken against her.

“The statement of PDP leader Iltija Mufti is very irresponsible, objectionable. The tweet by Mufti hurts the religious sentiments of people. This is an attempt to create a divide in society. We should respect the rule of law and the Constitution. The law will take its course. She should apologize for her tweet,” BJP leader Ravindra Raina said.
Meanwhile, West Bengal BJP leader Agnimitra Paul also slammed Iltija Mufti, alleging that she and her mother, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, have consistently spoken out against India.
“Mehbooba Mufti and her daughter always speak against India. Recently, Mehbooba Mufti compared Gaza and Bangladesh to India, and now Iltija Mufti is comparing Islam with Hinduism. This is an insult to both religions,” Paul said, accusing the Muftis of spreading hatred in the region.
