Delhi/Jammu, August 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that August 5, 2019, marked a significant turning point in the history of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh with the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35(A).

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said the decision opened a new chapter for the two regions, leading to major changes in development, opportunities and the implementation of constitutional provisions.

PM Modi stated that over the past seven years, the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh have witnessed wide-ranging transformation, with progress in sectors including infrastructure, education, healthcare, entrepreneurship and sports.

He said that women and marginalised sections, who were deprived of certain constitutional rights for decades, have been empowered through the full application of the Constitution of India.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the significance of August 5 this year, coinciding with the 125th birth anniversary year of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee, whose commitment to national unity, he said, continues to inspire generations. He added that what Mookerjee envisioned decades ago was fulfilled on August 5, 2019.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment, PM Modi said efforts will continue towards the progress of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, ensuring every citizen gets opportunities to achieve their aspirations and contribute to building a developed India.
