Strongly condemns arrest of Sonum Wangchuk

Jammu, Sept. 27 :- Congress today hit out at BJP for its total failure to deal with the situation in Leh blaming centre of pushing the Ladakhis to the wall for  five years of peaceful satyagreh and strongly condemning the illegal arrest of Sonam Wangchuk, a world renowned enviorntalist, while extending support to their legitimate demands through peaceful non-violent modes .

Addressing a press conference here today at PCC HQ Jammu JKPCC Working President Shri Raman Bhalla, Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, Ex-MLC Ved Mahajan, Senior Adv. Shah Mohd Choudhary, Ex- Corporator Dwarka Choudhary and others blamed BJP for pushing to the peaceful agitators of Leh to the wall and betrayals , as a result the situation of civil unrest slipped out of hands, anger and frustration,  after health of their colleagues on fast, deteriorated and the administration failed to visualize the deteriorating situation before hand and take preventing measures.

Centre Govt. and BJP kept the peaceful agitators of Ladakh in dark by dilly-delaying and then resorted to arm twisting methods against the leadership which probed counterproductive leading to violence, which is very unfortunate and  unacceptable. But it was utter failure of BJP and Centre to hold meaningful and result oriented dialogue with the peaceful agitators for five years on the promises made to them by  BJP. They marched to Delhi but locked up inside JK Guest House Delhi and not moved out of gates, few months ago. They started a fast on death but no one from BJP and Centre intervened to break the ice and take precautionary measures, well in time.

The senior leaders questioned BJP which held sway in Leh since 2019, as to why people of Leh lost the trust in BJP due to betrayals, as a  result the angry youth targeted BJP Office. Then the BJP resorted to diversionary and distraction tactics to malign opposition and peaceful agitators by false and fake narratives and now arrested Sonam WangChuk under NSA.  Why entre and UT administration was silent against him till three days  ago, if there was such strong allegations against him. BJP’s all senior leaders are shamelessly and falsely blaming congress, which was not part of APEX Body spearheading the agitation for five years, as revealed by Mr. Sonam Wangchuk himself before his arrest..

They said earlier supporters of BJP and P.M Modi as media reports suggest but it was betrayal of BJP that he and the people of the Ladakh turned against BJP  and now has been put behind bars under stringest and draconian laws.

BJP stands exposed for its lies, Jumlas and betrayals, as the promises made to the Ladakhis were not fulfilled. Congress supports the legitimate demands of people of Ladakh and appeals for peace and normalcy and dialogue to restore the situation of normalcy in the sensitive frontialregion of the country. Ladakhis are peaceful strong patriots and always defeated the  mischief and misadventures of hostile neighbor against the nation

We strongly condemn the killing of four youth and injuries to 89 others and support the demand of Ladakh UT Congress for a judicial probe into the incident for justice and fair play . We express our shock over the worrysome situation in Leh, which has remained always peaceful and the people frontier soldiers of our country. BJP led Centre and UT administration should not use arm twisting methods to crush their peaceful and genuine struggle but resort to dialogue..

We appeal to the people of Ladakh to continue to follow Gandhian mode for the fulfillment of their legitimate demands. GOI should learn a lesson from the betrayals and broken promises in Ladakh and fulfill the repeated promises made the people of J&K for early restoration of statehood, they added.
