SRINAGAR, SEPT 3: With relentless rain battering parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education Sakeena Itoo flanked by Advisor to the Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani on Wednesday visited the Irrigation and Flood Control Room Ram Munshi Bagh in Srinagar to take on-spot assessment of the current flood situation and readiness measures made certain by the Government.
In the course of the meeting, Minister Itoo and Advisor Wani took stock of the prevailing water levels, monitoring mechanism in situ, and steps undertaken to safeguard vulnerable areas.
Senior officers of the Flood & Irrigation Department, SDRF, and district administration gave an overview to Minister and Advisor about the current steps being taken to safeguard vulnerable areas and other flood-prone areas.
In her opening remarks, Sakeena Itoo underscored the importance of officers for advance dissemination of information to the people and action on war-footing basis in face of eventuality. Itoo directed that timely alerts and advisories be issued in view of safe evacuation of people from low-lying and flood-prone zones.
The Minister also emphasized that officers must keep men and machinery vigilant near embankments of Jhelum. She further instructed officers to remain in close synergy.
“They called constant awareness measures to ensure that people stay informed and prepared.
The Minister and Advisor assured that the Government is determined towards safety and well-being of the citizens and appealed to the public to avoid getting panic and cooperate with authorities.
