Srinagar, May 4: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday urged young athletes to act as ambassadors of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, calling on them to use sports platforms and social media to spread awareness against drug abuse.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the All India Inter-University Wushu Championship for men and women at the University of Kashmir Sports Ground, which has drawn over 1,000 athletes from more than 150 universities across the country.
Referring to the ongoing anti-drug campaign in Jammu and Kashmir, Sinha said active participation of youth is essential to strengthen the movement. He encouraged student-athletes to create short awareness videos and share them on social media to inspire others.
“Every athlete should record a short video of 20 to 60 seconds and share it online. Your message can guide many young people towards the right path,” he said.
Describing athletes as role models, the Lieutenant Governor said their responsibility goes beyond performance on the field. “You are role models for the younger generation. Your voice can help steer youth away from drugs and towards sports and discipline,” he added.
Sinha also stressed that sporting events should serve as platforms for promoting social responsibility and nation-building. “This championship is not just about winning medals, but about discipline, character and building a healthy society,” he said.
Reiterating his appeal, he said the fight against drug abuse requires collective effort, with youth playing a key role in ensuring a drug-free future.
