SEPT 26: With curfew clamped in Leh town on the third consecutive day on Friday, a team of Union Home Ministry held a series of meetings for the assessment of the overall security situation.
It is learnt that no untoward activity was reported from the region.
Following the widespread vociferous protest escalating in the town which claimed four lives and injured over ninety, the curfew was imposed on Wednesday evening. This precisely occured amid the shutdown called by the Leh Apex Body (LAB) to engage in talks with Centre on the demand of Statehood and inclusion of Sixth Schedule to Ladakh.
In the course of imposition of these restrictions the overall situation remained under tranquility across Ladakh. Besides, the restrictions are to be relaxed later in the day for the usual activity.
Notably, more than 50 persons were detained on the heels of the widespread escalation.
Additionally, Police and Paramilitary Force were witnessed patrolling the streets to maintain law and order by thwarting any iniquitous attempt to disrupt the peace.
District Magistrate, Leh, Romil Singh has directed that all Government and private schools, colleges, and other educational institutions will remain shut for two days from Friday.
As per the reports, a high-level team of officials from the MHA reached Leh on Thursday to take stock of the security scenario.
LG Ladakh Kavinder Gupta said, “Videos that have surfaced are attempts to disrupt tranquility in Ladakh. We don’t want the future of our youth to get jeopardized. Any such untoward incident will have zero tolerance policy in the future.”
