Leh: In a significant administrative development, the President of India has authorised the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh to make appointments to all Group ‘A’ posts of General Civil Services in the Union Territory.
As per the official notification, the power to appoint officers under Article 239 of the Constitution now lies with the LG of Ladakh. This marks a key step in enhancing administrative autonomy for the UT.
However, the notification makes it clear that the appointments to two critical positions — the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police — will continue to require approval from the Central Government.
This move is expected to streamline decision-making and boost governance efficiency in the region.
