Kulgam, September 16: Kulgam Police arrested three alleged drug peddlers, including a woman, in two separate operations and recovered a total of 190.5 grams of heroin-like substance.
In the first operation, police conducted naka checking near Town Hall at Upper Market Qazigund. During the checking, a woman was stopped after she was found moving in a suspicious manner. A search of her bag led to the recovery of 20.5 grams of heroin-like substance packed in a black polythene bag.
The arrested woman was identified as Aqsa Bashir, daughter of Bashir Ahmad Dar, a resident of Hardpora Akinpora, Anantnag. Police registered FIR No. 221/2026 under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Qazigund and started an investigation.
In a separate operation, police set up a naka near the North Portal of Navyug Tunnel. The naka party from Police Post Navyug Tunnel intercepted a silver-coloured Swift Dzire bearing registration number JK09E-9019.
During the search of the vehicle, police recovered 170 grams of heroin from the possession of two occupants. They were identified as Imran Mir, son of Mohd Akram Mir, and Muhbat Dar, son of Maqsood Ahmed Dar, both residents of Karnah, Kupwara.
Both individuals were arrested, and FIR No. 222/2026 was registered at Police Station Qazigund under Sections 8/21/29 of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the recovered substance and identify others who may be involved.
