Jammu: J&K BJP Spokesperson Dr. Abhijeet Jasrotia criticizing the Indus Water Treaty signed during Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s tenure, calling it a “historic blunder” that continues to haunt the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a press conference in Jammu, Dr. Jasrotia highlighted how the treaty unfairly divided river resources between India and Pakistan, giving away three major rivers—Jhelum, Chenab, and Indus—to Pakistan, while India was left with only the Beas, Sutlej, and Ravi.
“The water availability stands at 135 million acre-feet for Pakistan, while India gets just 33 million acre-feet. This deliberate injustice has harmed the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he stated.
He also raised concerns regarding the Mangla Dam, built on the Jhelum River in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). Dr. Jasrotia claimed that compensation checks meant for PoJK displaced families were never delivered.
“Indira Gandhi congratulated Bhutto but failed to secure the rightful claims of our people. It’s time to correct this historical injustice and ensure compensation for Mangla Dam victims,” he asserted.
Dr. Jasrotia concluded by urging the government to take action and deliver long-overdue justice to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
