Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Police lifted three suspects from Sidhra area and seized the three vehicles used in the murder of gangster Gataru in Jewel Chowk on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, deceased gangster Sumit Jandyal alias Gataru ‘s postmortem was conducted by a board of doctors in presence of police in the mortuary room of GMCH Jammu. His body was later handed over to his legal heirs for last rites.
Intensifying its crackdown, Jammu and Kashmir Police lifted three suspects from Sidhra area for questioning. Police have also seized one I 20 car,one Alto Car and a scooty from Sidhra and Purmandal areas. These vehicles were used to execute Gataru’s murder.
Pertinently, four persons shot at Sumit Jandial, alias Gataru, a notorious underworld figure and head of the Gataru Gang, in the bustling city of Jammu, here on Tuesday morning at Jewel Chowk.
Sumit Jandial, a 37-year-old resident of Vijaypur, was ambushed while traveling in his Thar SUV. Assailants who were waiting for him, fired four bullets and left him fatally wounded. Despite being rushed to Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, Jandial was declared dead on arrival. The attackers fled the scene on a snatched scooty , prompting the police to launch a massive search operation.
Deceased gangster Gataru was booked under Public Safety Act and lodged in Kathua Jail. It was in the month of September 2024, he was bailed out. He was coming from his aunt’s house in his Thar car bearing registration number JK21G/0770 when fired upon. The attackers did not give him a chance of taking out his pistol which was being carried by him.
Later, the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu, Anand Jain, ruled out any terror angle, attributing the killing to gang rivalry. Shortly after the murder, the KHAUFF Gang, led by Vicky Slathia alias Vicky Khauff, claimed responsibility in a chilling social media post. Gang members Anil Rajee and Bunty Rajje stated that the killing was revenge for the murder of their associate, Shunnu.
