Jammu, August 11: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to receive widespread rain and thundershowers over the coming days, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in parts of the Jammu division and intense showers in some areas of Kashmir, according to the Meteorological Centre Srinagar.

The weather department said light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at many places across J&K from August 9 to 11, with the weather activity expected to peak on August 11.

Heavy to very heavy rain is forecast at a few places in the Jammu division, while some districts of Kashmir may also experience short spells of intense rainfall.

The Meteorological Centre has warned that one or two places could receive heavy to very heavy rainfall during the night of August 11.

Intense rainfall may lead to flash floods, landslides and waterlogging, particularly in vulnerable areas and low-lying locations.

From August 12 to 16, light rain and thundershowers are expected at many places, with brief spells of heavy rain possible at some locations.

Another spell of light to moderate rain and thundershowers is likely across many areas from August 17 to 19, with intense showers possible at a few places.

Authorities have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions due to the possibility of flash floods, landslides and waterlogging during periods of heavy rainfall.
