Ramban, Aug 7: Security forces have launched a massive search operation after a suspicious Scorpio SUV allegedly breached a security checkpoint at Chanderkote in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district during the early hours of Friday.

Officials said the vehicle was travelling from Srinagar towards Jammu when police personnel stationed at the Chanderkote naka signalled it to stop for inspection. Instead of complying, the driver reportedly sped away towards the Nashri area.

To halt the vehicle, police fired three warning rounds, but the SUV managed to escape. Soon after the incident, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Army jointly launched a search operation to trace the vehicle and identify its occupants.

Searches are continuing in Chanderkote and adjoining areas, with security forces maintaining heightened vigil on all connecting routes.

The incident comes at a time when security has been significantly tightened due to the ongoing Amarnath Yatra, as Ramban lies along the key route used by pilgrims travelling to the holy cave shrine.
