SRINAGAR: In a major restructuring move, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has implemented a 3-tier faculty system in the Indira Gandhi Government Dental College, Jammu, and Government Dental College, Srinagar.
As per Government Order No. 95-JK (HME) of 2025, issued by the Health & Medical Education Department, 24 Lecturer posts have been upgraded to Assistant Professor (Level-11) positions, and nine new Associate Professor (Level-12) posts have been created.
The decision, approved in the Council of Ministers meeting on January 20, 2025, aims to strengthen dental education in the region. Of the upgraded positions, 11 belong to the Indira Gandhi Government Dental College, Jammu, while 13 are from the Government Dental College, Srinagar. The newly sanctioned Associate Professor positions include five for Jammu and four for Srinagar.
Sanction is hereby accorded to the upgradation of 24 posts of Lecturers (11 posts in Indira Gandhi Government Dental College, Jammu & 13 posts in Government Dental College, Srinagar) to the level of Assistant Professor (Level-11) by corresponding reduction of 24 posts of Lecturer and creation of 09 posts of Associate Professor at Level-12 (05 posts in Indira Gandhi Government Dental College, Jammu & 04 posts in Government Dental College, Srinagar) by corresponding reduction of remaining 09 posts of Lecturers.
The sanctioned strength of the 3-Tier faculty structure in various disciplines in Indira Gandhi Government Dental College, Jammu and Government Dental College, Srinagar shall be as per Annexure-A to this Order.
Consequent upon the above, the incumbent Lecturers of various disciplines in Indira Gandhi Government Dental College, Jammu and Government Dental College, Srinagar, as mentioned in Annexure-B to this Order, are hereby re-designated as Assistant Professor (Level-11), against the upgraded posts.
With this move, lecturers across various disciplines, including Periodontics, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Prosthodontics, and Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics, have been promoted to Assistant Professor positions. The order also specifies the updated sanctioned strength for each discipline, solidifying the faculty structure for the years ahead.
