Jammu: Security preparations for Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026 have been significantly strengthened with authorities putting in place a technology-driven surveillance network, integrated command systems and specialised mountain rescue units to ensure safe and seamless movement of pilgrims.
At the centre of the security architecture is the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) in Jammu, which will function as the nerve centre for real-time monitoring, inter-department coordination and rapid response during the pilgrimage beginning July 3.
Officials said the command centre integrates police, traffic authorities and civic agencies on a common platform, enabling continuous monitoring of Yatra routes, base camps and sensitive locations through an extensive surveillance network.
More than 610 CCTV cameras are being monitored round-the-clock to track movement and enable quick response to suspicious activity. Traffic management, sanitation, parking, accommodation assistance and public services are also being coordinated through the integrated system.
Authorities said the centralised platform allows faster information sharing and decision-making, reducing response time during emergencies and improving overall management of the pilgrimage.
To further strengthen emergency preparedness in the high-altitude terrain, Jammu and Kashmir Police have conducted large-scale operational drills at 18 strategic locations across both Yatra routes.
The exercise involved 45 specialised Mountain Rescue Teams comprising personnel from Jammu and Kashmir Police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
Mock rescue drills were carried out across key stretches including Chandanwari, Pissu Top, Zojibal, Nagakoti, Wavbal, MG Top, Poshpathri, Kelnar, Dardkote, Sangam Top, Holy Cave, Lower Holy Cave, Y-Junction, Brarimarg, Railpathri, Domail, Panjtarni and Sheshnag.
The exercise tested preparedness for medical emergencies, landslides, flash floods, evacuation procedures, communication systems and coordination among agencies to ensure timely response in difficult terrain.
Police have also advised pilgrims to use the ‘Pehchaan’ mobile application to verify registered service providers during the Yatra to help prevent fraud, impersonation and overcharging.
Officials said the integrated surveillance system and rescue preparedness are aimed at ensuring secure, efficient and uninterrupted conduct of the annual pilgrimage.
