Srinagar, Sep 14: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet against a man accused of cheating people by promising government jobs using forged documents.
According to the EOW, the chargesheet was presented before the Court of Forest Magistrate, Srinagar, in connection with FIR No. 12/2026 registered under Sections 420, 468 and 471 of the IPC.
The accused has been identified as Abdul Majeed Mir, son of Abdul Rahim Mir, a resident of Lishtiyal, Kalaroos, Kupwara.
The case was registered following a complaint alleging that Mir had taken lakhs of rupees from the complainant by promising to secure a government job for his son. He allegedly handed over an appointment letter claiming to be issued by the Airports Authority of India, which was later found to be fake.
During the investigation, the allegations were substantiated and the chargesheet was subsequently submitted before the competent court for judicial determination.
Officials said Mir has 15 criminal cases registered against him across the Kashmir Valley. He was arrested on July 18, 2026, and is currently lodged in Central Jail, Srinagar.
The EOW further alleged that the accused impersonated influential individuals and government officials to deceive and cheat people.
The public has been advised to remain cautious of financial fraud and report such cases to the Economic Offences Wing of Crime Branch J&K.
