Srinagar | September: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was adjourned for the day on Monday after protests and heated exchanges disrupted proceedings during the opening day of the autumn session.
CPI(M) MLA M.Y. Tarigami said disruptions in the Assembly were not a new thing, but stressed that Question Hour was an important opportunity for members to raise questions with the government and seek answers from the administration.
Tarigami said disrupting Question Hour was unfair to Assembly members as it prevented them from raising public issues and seeking answers from the government. He said that when Question Hour is disrupted, the government also gets an opportunity to avoid answering questions.
On statehood, Tarigami said the Central Government had promised to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. He said that not restoring statehood meant that the people of J&K continued to have limited legislative powers.
