Jammu, May 25: Jammu and Kashmir Police issued a fresh cyber advisory warning people against fake online discounts, fraudulent shopping offers and flashy social media advertisements being used by cyber criminals to target unsuspecting users.
Police said scammers are increasingly using fake “limited-time deals”, huge discounts and attractive online advertisements to create panic and urgency among shoppers, pushing them to click suspicious links or make online payments without proper verification.
According to officials, such frauds are aimed at stealing banking details, personal information and money through fake websites, cloned shopping portals and malicious payment links.
People have been advised to avoid clicking suspicious links shared through WhatsApp, SMS or social media and use only trusted platforms for online shopping and digital transactions.
Cyber fraud cases have witnessed a sharp rise in Jammu and Kashmir with increasing internet usage and digital banking. In 2025, police identified nearly 7,200 mule bank accounts linked to cyber fraud networks and arrested over 20 persons during investigations in Kashmir.
Officials also said cyber frauds involving more than Rs 184 crore were reported from Jammu and Kashmir in 2025, while authorities managed to recover over Rs 32 crore through timely action and public complaints.
Police urged the public to immediately report cyber frauds or suspicious online activity on helpline number 1930 or through the official cybercrime reporting portal, cybercrime.gov.in.
