SEPT 25: A day after the violent clashes claimed at least four lives and injured around 90, a curfew has been imposed in Leh district on Thursday.
It is learnt that around 50 people have been detained by Police and Paramilitary Forces in this regard.
In a bid to mature talks with Central leadership on the issue of Statehood and inclusion of Sixth schedule to Ladakh, a shutdown has been called by Leh Apex Body (LAB).
LG Ladakh Kavinder Gupta said curfew has been imposed across the Leh district of the Union Territory after violent clashes.
On Wednesday, District Magistrate of Kargil, Rakesh Kumar had imposed prohibitory restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNS), 2023, with immediate effect to thwart any further untoward activity.
Pertinent to mention, Sonam Wangchuk called off fortnight-long hunger strike after confrontation surfaced in Leh town. The protesters had ransacked the BJP office, vandalised the Hill Council headquarters, torched Police van to display resentment against the Central Government.
As per the reports, three among the injured were citizens of Nepal and Police is probing whether there is a involvement of foreigners in the confrontation.
The Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance have helmed the agenda of pressing the demand for Statehood and inclusion of Sixth Schedule. In this regard, in past, they have done several talks with the Central Government. Notably, the next round of talks is slated on October 6, 2025.
