JAMMU: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening institutional infrastructure and ensuring the timely completion of projects of public importance, while reviewing the progress of the new Legislative Assembly Complex in Jammu.

During his visit to the project site, the Chief Minister took stock of the pace of construction and directed the concerned officers to ensure systematic execution of the work, maintain quality standards and adhere to the stipulated timeline. He stressed the need for close coordination among the departments and executing agencies to avoid delays.

The new Assembly Complex, being constructed at a revised cost of ₹208.53 crore, has a proposed built-up area of 22,165 square metres.

The project, initially taken up in 2012, had remained stalled since 2018 before being revived following a revised administrative approval in 2025. Construction work resumed on February 15, 2026, with October 31, 2027, set as the scheduled date of completion.

The Chief Minister was informed that the complex would have six levels and include the Assembly Hall, Central Hall, visitor and press galleries, committee rooms and modern building management systems.

An expenditure of ₹5.97 crore had been incurred on the project up to October 31, 2026.

Omar Abdullah emphasised that the Assembly Complex was an important institutional infrastructure project and called for sustained monitoring to ensure its completion within the approved timeframe. He also stressed that quality should not be compromised during execution.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister distributed appointment letters to 17 candidates selected for posts in the Public Works (Roads and Buildings) Department under the Recruitment Advertisement System (RAS) and SRO-43.

The appointments included eight Supervisors and eight Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) under RAS, while one candidate was appointed under SRO-43.

Congratulating the appointees, Omar Abdullah urged them to discharge their duties with dedication, sincerity and a strong sense of responsibility.

He said public service required commitment and accountability, and encouraged the newly appointed employees to contribute positively to the functioning of the department.

The visit was attended by Speaker Legislative Assembly Abdul Rahim Rather, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Dheeraj Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary Public Works Anil Kumar Singh, Commissioner Secretary General Administration Department M Raju, Secretary Law Achal Sethi and other senior officers.
