Jammu, November 2: In a setback to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district, three former Block Development Council (BDC) chairmen have resigned from the party’s primary membership with immediate effect.
The leaders who resigned are Chander Mohan Singh from Panthal block, Sham Lal Bhagat from Katra block and Ashok Thakur from Bhomag block. They submitted their resignation letters to the BJP district president on October 31, a party leader confirmed on Monday.
In their resignation letters, the three leaders requested the party leadership to accept their decision and remove their names from the party’s primary membership records.
Although they have not publicly explained the reasons behind their decision, sources close to the leaders suggest that dissatisfaction with the party’s functioning and certain organisational issues may have played a role in their exit.
The former BDC chairmen have so far not made any public statement explaining their reasons for leaving the party.
All three leaders have previously held important responsibilities within the BJP organisation. Chander Mohan Singh served as a state executive member of the BJP’s Panchayati Raj Cell, while Sham Lal Bhagat was part of the party’s District Executive Body.
Ashok Thakur, meanwhile, served as Mandal Reasi In-charge and district secretary.
Their collective resignation comes as a notable organisational development for the BJP in Reasi, given their previous roles and association with the party at the grassroots level.
