SEPT 23: J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chaired a meeting on Tuesday morning and recommended to Lieutenant Governor that the Assembly be convened on October 13, 2025.
As per the sources, the cabinet meeting was attended by all the ministers – Labour & Employment, Skill Development , Public Works (R&B), Mining, Industries and Commerce, Surinder Choudhary; Minister for Health and Medical Education, School Education and Social Welfare, Sakina Masood (Itoo); Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana; Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj and Election, Javed Dar; Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Transport, Science and Technology, Information Technology and Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma.
In the course of the meeting, the Cabinet decided to recommend to LG that the Assembly Session be convened on October 13.
It is learnt that the session is likely to be short and may last for seven days, from October 13 to 20, 2025, besides the Cabinet would meet on Wednesday morning to decide on holding the Autumn Session of the J&K Assembly.
As per the Jammu & Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, there must not be a gap longer than six months between the two sessions.
“The Lieutenant Governor shall convene the Legislative Assembly to meet at the requisite place, but for six months he shall not intervene,” reads J&K Reorganisation Act, 2019.
Notably, the last sitting of the previous session was convened on April 29, and as per the rules, the next session must be held by October 28, 2025.
Furthermore, the issues like Statehood, National Highway Blockage, Floods and reservation are expected to dominate proceedings in the House this time.
